I thought I knew all there was to know about a real estate transaction until I started at VISTA and sat down with our closers.

behind the escrow process.”

So I made it a point to sit with each one of our Escrow Closers: Magan Ham, Meghan Allen, and April Dewey. It was a truly enlightening experience.

I must say, when an escrow order comes in, it is hardly just these three people that get involved. From the order desk to the assistants, to the sales team, and all the work that has likely already happened on the title side of our business, it is very much a team effort to get across the finish line of a closed transaction.

What does a day in the life of an escrow professional look like? It looks hectic. There are so many moving parts to every real estate transaction, which comes as no surprise to a former licensed Realtor, but from where I sat before, it seemed almost magical that escrow did what they did. In goes about a hundred different amounts for different settlement services, taxes, fees, and of course, the price of the home, and out comes the perfectly balanced payment to each party.

But it’s not magic. It’s hard work. Every one of those settlements is something hand-checked and double-confirmed against the contract, the applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations, and any other special instructions that might have come along with that deal.

In sitting with these amazing superheroes of the business, I can honestly say it has changed how I see their part in the great big machine that we call the real estate industry. And if everyone involved in each transaction was a relay race runner, then the last one to take that baton and cross the finish line would most definitely be the closer.
